What type of metal your jewellery is made of

In order for us to service your jewellery, it's crucial for us to determine its composition. If you're unsure about the metal your jewellery is made of, we're here to assist you in the process. Follow these steps:

1. Check for Hallmarks:
Look for a stamp on your jewelry. Typically, it's discreetly placed on the backside of a pendant, inside a ring, or near the closure of a bracelet or necklace. These stamps, known as hallmarks, signify that your piece of jewelry is crafted from a precious metal like gold or silver. They may also include letters, such as "AU" for gold and "AG" for silver.

2. No Stamp:
If your jewelry lacks a hallmark or stamp, it likely indicates that it's made of a non-precious metal like brass. However, there are instances where the hallmark might have worn off, or the jewelry was never stamped to begin with. If you're uncertain about your piece falling into this category, reach out to us for assistance.

3. Understanding Hallmarks:
Once you've located the hallmark, it's essential to comprehend its significance based on whether your jewelry is gold or silver:

**Gold Hallmarks:**
- The number stamped on your gold jewelry reveals whether it's solid gold or gold-plated silver, along with its karatage. Here are the indicators for solid gold:
- 375 = 9 karat
- 585 = 14 karat
- 750 = 18 karat
- 916 = 22 karat
- 990/999 = 24 karat
- If your gold piece bears a number corresponding to the silver hallmarks listed below, it indicates that it's made of gold-plated silver and will be recycled as silver.
- If your gold piece lacks a hallmark, it's likely gold-plated brass.

Silver Hallmarks:
For silver, the numbers differ from those used for gold. If you spot any of the following numbers on your piece, it signifies that it's made of silver:
- 800
- 925 (Sterling Silver)
- 958 (Britannia Silver)
- 999

4. Unable to Identify the Number?
With older jewelry pieces, deciphering the number might be challenging. Nevertheless, if your jewelry bears any form of stamp, regardless of its legibility, it indicates that it's crafted from a precious metal. We'll assist in determining the specific metal when you send us your jewelry.
